Christofor Foundation donates $500,000 to the new Performing Arts Centre

The new Performing Arts Centre in Fredericton has received a big boost to its ambitious Encore! campaign, thanks to a $500,000 gift from the Christofor Foundation.

The Christofor Foundation was established with funds from the Sir James Dunn and Lady Dunn family estate. The foundation was named in honour of Lady Dunn, Marcia Anastasia Christoforides; friends and family called her “Christofor” as a nickname.

Michael Doyle, president of the Christofor and Sir James Dunn Foundations, says he is thrilled to support the building of a modern performing arts centre in the province. “Investment in arts and culture in our province is critical for the growth and vibrancy of our communities, and this state-of-the-art new venue is addressing that need. Performing arts is important because it brings the community together – audience and artists. Artists don’t typically receive the support they deserve, so it is our pleasure to support this wonderful project.”

Tim Yerxa, executive director for Fredericton Playhouse Inc., says that support from the Christofor Foundation is not only a huge boost to the campaign, but is also a critical nod to the importance of the arts in our province. “Thanks to this support, we’re on our way to realizing our long-time vision to strengthen the community through performing arts.”

He adds, “This transformational capital project in our region would not be possible without donor support and we are thrilled to honour one of New Brunswick’s most generous philanthropists - along with every donor to the campaign – within the venue.”
