Building a vibrant future

Together, the City of Fredericton, Fredericton Playhouse Inc. (the non-profit charity that operates the Playhouse and the new Hawkes Centre) and our community are designing, funding and building the new state-of-the-art facility that will connect the greater capital region and river valley communities with the modern world of live performance possibilities.

The City of Fredericton, along with the federal and provincial governments, have come together and confirmed a financial commitment toward a new performing arts centre. For its part, Fredericton Playhouse Inc. has completed a successful community campaign to make its own contribution toward the capital project.

While additional public and private funding opportunities continue to be pursued, on Monday, February 10, 2025, Fredericton City Council approved the City’s contribution based upon the table below.

Source
City of Fredericton $28.3 - $53.3 million
Other governments $47.6 - $72.6 million
Divestiture of Playhouse $2.3 million +
Encore! Campaign $8 million +
Total $111.2 million

Thank you for helping us make magic happen!

Our Encore! campaign to raise funds from our community for the new performing arts centre has been hugely successful, with almost 1000 donors coming forward from our region!

We will be honouring EVERY SINGLE DONATION to the campaign by inscribing the donor’s name (or name of their choosing) somewhere in the new building! Whether inscribed within the interior architecture, on a seat in the main theatre, on a plaque above a space or on the building itself, every donor will be a part of the legacy of our community coming together to build a space that will be enjoyed for generations to come.

If you’d like to contribute to the new performing arts centre project, we’d love to speak with you. You can reach our Development Manager, Julie O’Brien, at 506-459-6207, or julie.obrien@theplayhouse.ca.
